Our happy life, or when the museum is not enough.
In this evening hosted by ARCH+ and the associate director of CCA publications, Albert Ferré, along with invited contributors and collaborators, will discuss the role that emotions play in generating space today and other overlooked topics—what we call the grey zone, an undeclared territory lying below the surface of dominant narratives that reveals preconceptions and attitudes embedded in our culture and in how we practice architecture.

Organized as a visual narrative with critical readings by Will Davies, Daniel Fujiwara, Simon Fujiwara, Ingo Niermann, Deane Simpson, and Mirko Zardini, this book reveals architecture, city, and landscape as contested surfaces, caught between the intangible guidelines of happiness indexes, the new marketplace of emotions, and the relentless ideology of positivity.

The Museum Is Not Enough is conceived of as the first issue of a yearly magazine, through which the CCA will explore urgent questions defining its curatorial activity. Organized around a set of questions, the book presents the CCA today and a series of conversations with others working on and thinking about a similar set of questions.

This event is part of the CCA’s 40th anniversary celebrations and continues the critical conversations that the CCA has sparked since its founding in 1979. We persist with questioning as a way of working, since the myriad of issues about the built environment that are still to be addressed call for new ways to increase public awareness of the role of architecture in society.
